At Founder’s CPA, we are privileged to work with a wide spectrum of highly impressive clients, such as Advocatia. Welcome to our Featured Founders, where we are highlighting a diverse set of “Founders” who may not fit the stereotypical “Founder” mold set by Silicon Valley, but they all bring a unique solution to their respective markets.

In this post, we showcase our Featured Founder, Advocatia, a company helping hospitals with their uncompensated care numbers by matching uncovered individuals with qualifying health care programs.

If you are interested in having your company featured, please contact us to get started.

Q) What does your company do?

Unlike full-service revenue cycle management companies that offer a broad spectrum of services, Advocatia has established deep experience and an in-depth understanding around complex specialty benefits enrollment. We know how to identify those who qualify. And we know how to get them enrollment as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Q) What is your mission?

We believe that organizations excel when their people, customers, and communities are empowered with the resources they need to succeed. Advocatia offers the confidence that every individual is connected to the resources they are qualified for so that they have the freedom to access the care they need.

Q) What inspired you to start Advocatia?  What is your “why”?

Individuals who are without medical insurance delay care 9 months longer than those who have coverage, resulting in an increased risk of chronic or severe illness. In working with the underserved population, we assisted a woman, Avila, with enrollment into Medicaid. Unfortunately, her lack of coverage resulted in Avila missing an early cancer diagnosis. By the time she went to a hospital emergency room for care, she received a diagnosis of stage 4 cancer, which ultimately led to her passing. We set out to create change through a technology that proactively enrolls people in the community, helping individuals to understand their options and receive efficient enrollment into coverage. Working with the underserved showed a need to develop a tech-enabled solution to better engage, assist, and enroll those who needed aid. Advocatia excites us because we continue to help people every day by connecting them to the resources they need and are eligible for, improving their access to care and overall health.

Q) What differentiates your company from your competitors?

While many companies in the healthcare space say they have a patient-centered approach, our approach is unique in that we have designed mechanisms to meet patients exactly where they are and to communicate with them in ways that are most comfortable. This has been especially important during the pandemic where the traditional face-to-face engagement wasn’t possible. Our technology has allowed hospital financial counselors to work remotely without missing a beat because they can leverage the many ways we have designed to identify, capture information and enroll people in the programs that can help them and their families.

Q) What are some challenges your consumers are facing right now and how does your company help?

The pandemic has, quite simply, changed the way people interact. Our clients were put in situations where they had to accommodate staff working from home. Many faced cut-backs because hospitals weren’t doing elective procedures and were focusing on just the most essential care. By leveraging our technology, our clients were able to keep their teams intact and empower them to assist their growing population of uninsured patients find affordable or no-cost health insurance and social programs to meet the needs of their families. Doing so means their patients are prepared for when they need care and the hospitals reduces its uncompensated care at a time when they need it the most.

Q) What’s your favorite part about being an entrepreneur?

As an entrepreneurial organization, we are agile and can quickly respond to the changing demands of our clients and the healthcare environment today. I personally enjoy participating in breaking down traditional boundaries between payers and providers and creating solutions that bring us together as a community dedicated to the health and wellness of the people we serve across the country. In addition, I find great pride and enjoyment in providing opportunities to our team and giving them the tools to grow and excel.
